I could sure use another three day weekend, but unfortunately my office will not be closed tomorrow for Cesar Chavez Day, unlike some government offices in the state. I tried to make the most of the weekend, though, with spending time in the sewing room high on my list. Friday night I finished sewing down the last few inches of binding on the little tablemat I showed last week. It's had a bath and is currently in the dryer getting crinkly.
Saturday morning was spent working on the doll quilt for the swap I joined on Lori's blog, Humble Quilts where 61 people signed up to swap small quilts. I am so excited about how mine is turning out--the top is now complete with sashing. It's hard not to share photos, but I think this is a secret swap so it will have to wait.
After a short shopping trip and some lunch, I picked up my 95 year old mother-in-law so we could take her over to see her new great-grandson.
Four generations in this photo. Frances was very happy to get a chance to hold Cove and welcome him to the family. Special times!
Saturday night I worked on this tablerunner I pin basted a week or two ago. The poor thing has been languishing unfinished for at least a year.
I used my walking foot and a three-step zig-zag stitch spaced about an inch apart.
I think it goes well with the more modern fabrics (Sandy Gervais line). Simple and quick. I got the binding attached last night and finished the sewing it down this morning. Then I worked on the backing for the doll quilt and got that finished.
Lastly, there were some more pieces and parts cut for the High Cotton quilt from Kim Diehl's Simple Comforts book, and one more block sewn.
Some of these hoarded Bonnie Blue Quilts fat quarters will join the scraps and leftovers. Man, it is hard to cut into them! Hope you all had a good weekend as well.

busy, busy! Lots going on on your weekend..loving the little table runner...and great family pics. Your MIL looks great! Weekend is over here and work awaits! Looking forward to the big reveal of the swap quilt!
Sweet to have the four generations together! Nice family photo.
The table runner is so fresh and pretty. That three step zig-zag makes a nice quilting pattern.
I have hoarded many a fabric myself, but I am finally deciding to use them up in things I will keep around my home and then I can enjoy them all the time. Go ahead--cut 'em up! : )
You're m-i-l does not look her age. What a special day for her and a great generational photo op. Love the wavy stitch on your runner.
Love, love, love the four generations photo. I had some hoarded fabric too; had hung onto it for years; but, once I designated to a specific project, it all seemed okay to cut it up and use it! Your cute table mat is looks so good with that evenly spaced quilting, well done!
Three day weekends rock...and we have quite a few of them coming up in the next month .
Grant’s Mom looks proud as punch to be a great grandmother. (and she looks amazing for 95! )
Your tablerunner looks fabulous. Im a big fan of serpentine quilting.
That stack of fabrics waiting to be cut just gave my heart a thrill.
Great post! Love seeing the 4-generation photo. (I assume Grandma Annie had camera duty.)
Your simple but bold quilting on the table runner is wonderful! It stands out so well without overpowering the fabrics. Good stitch choice.
I had fun making the "High Cotton" quilt last year. The final look is quite dramatic, though the blocks are simple. I LOVED putting those blocks in place and seeing it all come together. You have a great bunch of fabrics there. Looking forward to seeing it.
Love the picture of the 4 generations. DT loves those photos, it's the only way she remembers some of her greats and grandparents.
The table runner turned out nicely. Congrats on the finish.
