Design Wall Monday--1/26/2015

On my design surface is the ongoing commissioned quilt I've been working on, Winding Ways.  I'm happy to report that another task has been crossed off the list.

The last blocks have finally been pieced!  I cut these with my Accuquilt GO die.  That helped a lot by making all the pieces identical.

I did seem to need a lot of pins on that final joining of the curved half sections.

36 Copper blocks, 36 Cream blocks, and 9 mixed blocks with turquoise equals 972 pieces sewn.   The quilt commissioner and her daughter will be coming over one night this week to help me play layout and switcheroo.  From now on there are no more curved seams.  I will have to match a million points but all the seams will be straight. Yay for that!

My sister and I went to the Road to California show on Saturday.  We walked around for about five hours straight and had a great time, though the four hours of driving there and back was tiring with the high winds we were having.  I went to bed early and fell asleep reading a new pattern.

There was a lot of replenishment of neutrals, but also some fun batik bundles and a taste of cheddar.  I didn't find the Sew Kind of Wonderful pattern I was looking for, but did come home with another for the Quick Curve Ruler (Metro Twist).  The Little Bites pattern "Whit" was the one I fell asleep reading :)  The crowd thinned late in the afternoon and we were being handed free items right and left, including the Gammill bag that can be worn as a backpack, and a tape measure.  I took many photos of quilts and could have taken a couple of hundred more.  I'll share some in another post--so many talented quilters out there!

Your piecing looks beautiful, so those pins are paying off! What a great haul from the merchant mall. I recently picked up the ruler and a handful of patterns by Sew Kind of Wonderful, too! I'm looking forward to jumping in, but am being strict with myself about finishing a few things first. *Sigh* It's so hard to be strict.

The winding ways blocks look fabulous. Someone is going to love that quilt with those rich colors. Let me know privately how you figure out pricing on commissioned works. I have had folks ask but I usually am not interested but ...

I'm looking forward to a quilt show at the end of the Feb. it's about 4 hours driving to and fro and the walking around. It has a huge vendor mall which makes it a) expensive and b) hard to see the quilts. Some day I hope to get to Ca. for the show. I've got friends I can stay with and then do some sightseeing up the coast. Who knows if I'll do it or not.

Those Winding Way blocks are wonderful - great colors and your piecing is perfect! Nice haul from the show. I'm missing going to a nice show. AQS left Cincinnati, NQA left Columbus .... might break down and go to Paducah for a day but that is a long drive- 6 hours each way. Has to be an overnight trip - decisions decisions.

Your quilt top is going to look amazing.
I like the look of that metro twist pattern, I'll have to look out for that, and it's ruler.

Great job on the Winding Ways blocks. That is one I don't think I will ever try to tackle.
Wonderful loot from the show--that was a long day!
I have the Whit pattern sitting out reminding me that I want to make it. I'll bet you get to it long before I do. : )

There may be a set of "winding ways" acrylic templates somewhere in my supply of "NOTIONS NEVER USED." And they'll probably stay hidden and unused. I prefer your method. It looks like your piecing is flawless, and your precise cutting has to be a factor. The blocks are gorgeous! Lovely fabrics in every photo. Have fun with the layout.

I'd have to spend the night for a day that long! :o) But what fun and you did score some great goodies. The copper is such a rich and pretty color for Winding Ways.

You did a fabulous job piecing those curves. I know your customer will be very pleased. Sounds like a wonderful trip to the quilt show and I see more curved pieces in your future!
