Playing with leftovers

I've had a baggie full of red and white leftovers from this quilt for two years but was inspired to pull them out by Julie's  playing with broken dishes blocks.  Since these were bonus half-square triangles, they squared up to an odd size, 3-3/4", but that doesn't matter.  I stitched up a batch of broken dishes.

Look closely and you can see the even more bonus triangles at the tips of the red fabrics, from the Pineapple Blossom blocks (Bonnie Hunter pattern).

Set block to block they make pinwheels.

But I love this star effect setting. A great many of these reds were from a 3" strip swap I was in years ago with the Yahoo group I used to be active in, Quiltbuddies.

Some sashing and a border, maybe a triangle shaped section added to both ends, and a tablerunner is born.  I'd like to keep this all red and white so a trip through the stash is up next.  I love leftovers!

I really like the last picture, the table runner in the making. Great job. I never seem to have enough of any leftover to do anything....maybe I need to mix them all together??

Broken dishes are great blocks -- just asking to be played with, added to, turned this way and that. You're definitely having fun playing. And the red-and-white is crisp and so "TODAY" with the red-white exhibit in NYC.

Were you inspired by the red and white exhibit in NY? I would love to stop and pull out my red and white 9-patches and get to work...well after the quilts are quilted I may still have time left.

Just love the red and white colors. Beautiful blocks and they are from left overs. Great project. Doesn't get much better than that.

Great idea! I really like the star layout. Hmmm, I have a ton of bonus triangles from my Jared Takes a Wife...can I steal your idea?
