Design Wall Monday--August 1, 2011

Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers for our future son-in-law Chris's family.  Services for Chris's dad will be Saturday and I expect the church will be full.  He most definitely will be missed and remembered.

There's nothing new on my design wall because all the blocks for the Scrappy Trails quilt are complete and ready to sew together.

Switcheroo went on for far too long but I finally called "Time!" and stopped.  Now I'm working on something else with a deadline:

Looks like some kind of weird game but those mugs and that plate are actually holding down some ivory tulle for DD Elaine's bridal veil before cutting.  It had been awhile since that dressmaker's cutting board had been opened.  I had to check it for spiders when I pulled it from the closet :)

After a brief conference with the Bride-to-Be to confirm measurements, I cut the tulle and began sewing on the rhinestone beaded trim.  I'm using invisible thread and rolling the edge of the tulle under the trim for a nice finish--I may be blind in a couple of days!  Previously I estimated it would take 4-5 hours to sew the trim on, but after working on it for some time, I think I need to double that estimate.  Elaine is having a bridal hair consult on Thursday so there are only a few days to get it finished.  Gulp.

I don't envy you put those beads on that tulle. A shame you don't have a serger, you could do that in record time with one. I like your switcheroo quilt. Very cheery!

Oh the fun of making bridal stuff. Don't go "Blind" you have a big day ahead, Mom. I call it a Payday when you get a new family member you didn't have to give birth to or go through all those crazy teenage years. It will be a bittersweet day for your future SIL and his family. I like you idea for using the quilt for it's own leader/ender to get it done double quick.

What a lovely veil that will be with all the rhinestone trim. It will be even more special for all the work it is taking. Looks like preparations are going well for the big day.

I have been so out of blogging of late that I did not realize your family had lost a member. I am so sorry.

Good luck with the tulle. I never liked working with it :(

Gosh Annie- I hope you manage to finish that with your sanity and eyesight in tact.

Ughhhhh spiders - a huge one crawled out of my interfacing the other day and chased me round the sewing room. I'd managed to forget the horror until you reminded me.

I think you did a good job with the switcheroo game - that quilt top looks pretty special.

You are the winner of the Mother-of-the-Bride Of The Year for sure!

I agree with Libby! That is an amazing amount of work, Annie! I'm so sorry to hear of you future SIL's father (we've been gone) - may he rest in peace.
Take Care!

The thing that I like about deadlines is that I actually get something done in a timely fashion.

Scrappy Trails is looking good.

Have to agree with Libby and Candace, you are definitely in the Mother of the Bride of the Year territory!

It is so sad to be planning a wedding and a funeral at the same time. So sorry to hear that your family is going through that.
Good luck with the veil...you are very brave to tackle such an intense and important job!

You're doing all the time-consuming, meticulous work out of maternal love. It's going to be lovely when it's finished. (short comment--you need to stop reading and get back to stitching)
