MOB

That's me, the Mother of the Bride.  I think the last minute for picking something to wear has passed, so my decision isn't last minute.  How's that for rationalization?
A bit blurry, but here are the dress and jacket I made am making--obviously the hem is not finished!

I'll be wearing my hair down so here's a pic to show the collar.  While I love the color and fabric, and the outfit is very "me", what I don't like is that this beautiful silk brocade wrinkles like mad.  Disappointing, but this outfit will have to be seen at another event where photos immortalizing me in wrinkled clothing are not going to be taken.

Here is the alternate dress. The smoky blue and satin/chiffon textures I really like.  I bought myself some cleavage fillets but you can see the dress is really low cut.

A piece of black lace improves my comfort in this.

I will close the wrap front with a few hand stitches (it is only pinned here).

...And craft myself a modesty accessory from the lace.  The armholes also need attention as the dress is a bit too tight there.  With these alterations I think it will be a good choice for this MOB.  I'd be happy to hear any feedback.

Oh Annie -- you're quite lovely! I love the suit you've made. It's gorgeous!! That being said, this is a day you want to feel comfortable and confident about what you're wearing, and spend the day wondering if you made the right choice. What feels best to you? Your blue dress is gorgeous too -- it's a great color and I love your personalized touches!!! Whatever you choose, you'll be beautiful! :)

Ooops -- and *not* spend the day wondering. LOL! :)

Too bad the brocade wrinkles, it's a lovely suit. The lace inset works really well, looks like it was part of the dress.

The suit is beautiful and the dress is exquisite. They look fabulous on you.

I love both outfits! So great that you have a back-up just in case! What does the bride vote for??

You are so talented, the suit looks great. Go with the one you feel the most comfortable in.

hehehe ... can I be a trouble maker and vote for no lace and one of Vickie's push up bras? I have a drop necklace you can borrow that would go nice with your dress.

All the time you put into sewing the dress and jacket, and it wrinkles so much. That's such a shame. It fits well, and the shape of the jacket is interesting and flattering.
I love the color and the unique style of the dress, and if the insert makes you feel more comfortable, then it's used wisely. I think the dress is the better choice, if simply because you'd keep thinking about wrinkled brocade in photos. The dress is a winner.

PS: You're going to be a beautiful MOB. Does the FOB just put on a tux?

WOW!!! What a great seamstress you are!!! I really like the suit, but I'm with you about the wrinkles!

The blue dress is an excellent color for you and I REALLY love the ruffle effect. I don't know why you don't just get you some 'booby' tape. Tape them suckers up high, after all, cleavage is SOOOO in style now!!! HA!

Seriously, the black lace is the perfect solution. I find the low cut apparel problem an issue for me too! I spent one whole day trying on tops and couldn't find one I thought would insure my 'girls' from getting loose!!!!!

Although I love the dress & jacket ensemble, the wrinkle factor is a serious drawback. We don't want a wrinkly MOB immortalized in the wedding album, now, do we? I vote for the sexy blue. And I say flaunt that cleavage, girl. I would if I had any. Get some booby glue like those runway models use and no need to worry.

I love the modest lace piece on your beautiful smokey colored dress. The color is lovely with your blonde hair.

I love the suit as well, but the darker dress (with inset) is positively lovely on you. You look great in either one!

Being a jeans and hoodie girl, I don't know that my opinion is worth much . . . . but I really like the dress. It looks more comfortable and I think I would leave out the lace - with your cutlets and modesty stitches, it looks great without.
You are going to be a beauty of a M-O-B!

I adore the suit, but if it were me, I'd be bothered by the wrinkling all day! The dress is gorgeous and would be my pick :>)
Cheers!

I think the blue looks great on you and it gets my vote, but I see your dilemma. The green is nice too. You did a super job making that dress! But the wrinkles might drive you crazy, especially since you are aware of them already. I agree with the others though, wear what makes you happy :-) Both are lovely :-)

I love the dress Annie- It is a very nice color and such an interesting design. If you are going to alter the armholes- can you raise the shoulders to change the depth of the neckline. It is important to feel comfortable which ever one you choose. The lace is a nice addition by the way.
I am sure you are going to be a gorgeous MOB.
Regards,
Anna

Aren't you the clever one.....love the suit but am with you on the dressing thing...and you have to be comfy and confident in whatever you wear........I am you on the cleavage thing...LOL

While your dress and jacket look great (I can't believe you made a jacket!) the blue one has a special feel about it with all the layers and satin. And lace makes it very special (and modest... and that is important for the MOB.) Lovely dress, lovely lady.
