Design Wall Monday--March 5, 2012

There is nothing on my design surface since I am working on quilting the two tablerunners for the UFO pick this month.  I got both pin basted and binding made for one, cut for the other, on Saturday.  Sunday I woke up tired and headachy and just couldn't seem to get going until mid afternoon.  It is typical for me to stall at the quilting design stage and this was true for the Baby Boxes runner.  Finally, after paging through the From Daisy to Paisley free motion quilting book by Leah Day, I settled on a simple design and practiced a little on a scrap sandwich to get the scale right before working on the real thing.

After three thread breaks in a foot of quilting and then running out of bobbin thread, I took off my gloves, tied and buried the thread ends, and stopped for the day.

However, I do like this easy stippling version called Wandering Clover, though my stitching looks a lot more like puzzle pieces than how Leah stipples!  See more design walls on Judy's Patchwork Times.

Today is my youngest offspring's birthday--Happy 22nd, Erica!  I called her in Arizona last night but she said it wasn't officially her birthday yet so I still owe her a text or phone call tomorrow :)

Annie, this looks like a great design for your runner--and a great design for the table topper I have stalled on while waiting to find the right quilting design. I almost bought that Leah Day book--have you found it to be worth the investment? Just curious to know your opinion.

I probably would have stopped too! Hope your day gets better. The Wandering Clover you've managed so far to stitch looks great. Happy Birthday Erica. Sandi

Had similar quilting woes on Sunday. Hey, we may have been cursing at the same time! LOL. got one run on the longarm done and didn't like my thread choice. basically it was almost invisible and you couldn't see the quilting. If I'm gonna quilt something, you are going to be able to see it! gosh darn it! seww proceeded to UNquilt. my least favorite part of quilting.

I like your design. where did you get that book??

I also like the design you chose for the table runner. Quilting books have been mentioned here and there in posts in the last few days. Same question as above -- how do you like the book? Was it worth the investment? I see it's available on Amazon, and does it come bound to lie flat? That's definitely a selling feature for me.
Hopefully your problems with thread and bobbin didn't rear their ugly heads again.

Hope you are feeling better today. I had the headache thing going on too, not fun when it's a weekend.

Beautiful quilting. Good luck getting it all stitched up this week.

Yep, there are times when it's best to throw in the gloves! Cute quilting design, though.
