Design Wall Monday--Sept 10, 2012

Monday again already!  On my design surface is the ongoing UFO of the month, the witches quilt.

The pattern only called for eyelashes--false ones sewn on--but I felt drawing them made more sense.  But they needed eyebrows!  I remembered an old Mary Kay eyebrow kit a friend had given me that had stencils.  That worked out great. Now the dilemma is the lack of a nose.  I'm not certain I can draw well enough to give the suggestion of a nose--which are remarkably hard to draw straight on.  Pondering...

I've been throwing the triangle cutoffs from the Picnic quilt into this wonderful old pressed glass vanity dish that belonged to my mother in law.  They are now sewn together and on their way into a mug rug or mini quilt for sale.  I signed up with a local Senior Craft Shoppe to sell my wares there--when I went to the organization's meeting to show my crafts, one lady joked that I might need to be carded.  Though I was definitely the youngest person in the room, I vowed I was the minimum age of 50, so they didn't make me show my driver's license :)   See more design walls on Judy's Patchwork Times.

The eyelash and brow are perfect. I'd forget the nose--you are right--they are so tough to draw straight on without making them look awkward.
Too funny about the seniors meeting. : )

I didn't even notice that there wasn't a nose. It looks great. I agree with Janet's comment above. I think you would be fine to leave it off.

Let me weigh in with my own nosey comment too... none needed! Your witches are elegant and the nose is implied. I cannot stop laughing over the idea of an eyebrow STENCIL; it looks great for this purpose but... is this made for actual placement on the human face... for real??!

I'm going for an eyebrow tattoo. ;)

What a wonderful witch. No nose, those lips, lashes and brow just speak volumes!! What a great piece. Now how many times will you have to vow to be the minimum age of 50. I don't think I've been in the circumstance yet where I have wanted to admit passing that wonderful milestone.

Elegant with a capital E! Lovely lady. Years ago I made several seasonal angels (from old Joined At The Hip patterns). I didn't like the nose they suggested, experimented a bit, and eventually sewed a thin upside down "7" for the nose. You could try that, but I don't think you need a nose. Agree with the others. The lovely lips, eyelashes, and eyebrow are enough.

Hilarious about that meeting. They're right. You do NOT look 50.

I love the eyebrow you added :) You know, I didn't even notice a nose was missing....perhaps you'll find you don't need one? LOL, almost being carded for being over 50...I love it ;-)

The eyebrow and eyelashes look perfect, I don't think she needs a nose either.

She looks fantastic. Why not quilt the nose in? And pop a little extra batting in from behind. Brain dead moment here, what's that technique called?

Forget the nose--no one will notice! It's a quilt, not a portrait, and if it looks okay without a nose, don't mess with it. 8^)

I love this little quilt. Have I told you that once or twice? lol
