It's been a few weeks since I posted on DWM--sewing has been sporadic of late. I'm working on a number of projects simultaneously and there are a bunch more in the pipeline. I hesitate to list them all, lest I instantly become overwhelmed! But for today, just two to show :)
The first is High Cotton, a Kim Diehl pattern. I have been cutting and sewing, cutting and sewing. I think I'm up to about half of the 63 blocks the quilt requires. These are 6.5" unfinished and I'm having a blast making them.
The newest are the bright green, the brown with blue leaves, and the purple with crescent-like shapes.
Also on my design wall is a project that I've made for others but never for my own home--placemats.
These brightly colored placemats will color our table nicely for the rest of the summer (though the photo makes them a little grayed down). I chose the fabrics to match a "ten minute tablerunner" I made a couple of summers ago. The stripe will be the backing and maybe the binding too.
Also very bright! They will match the hot and steamy weather we've been having for what seems like all summer. My husband said, "When did we move to Alabama?" We Southern Californians are not used to 80-90% humidity! See more Design Walls on Judy's Patchwork Times.
Ort: Noun, meaning a scrap; a bit. Usually plural. Words about quilting, fabric, family and life in a Southern California beach town.

Love your design wall quilt!! Such pretty colors!
Your Kim Diehl top looks lovely. Your color choices are beautiful. Great idea for placemats!
Love your Kim Diehl quilt! I have to tell you, Kim just lives a couple of hours from me, but I have never met her. Just last week there were fliers on the counter of a LQS advertising that she was going to be doing a free trunk show at a community center in a small town about 40 minutes away. I was so excited. I came home and called my quilty friend (and cousin) to plan on going together. She was all for it until I mentioned the date. She reminded me that it is at the exact time that my niece (and next-door neighbor) is getting married. Do you think I can get her to adjust that for me? : )
High Cotton is looking good! Oh I understand about the humidity and Californians - they don't mix. During the years I lived in CA any little bit of humidity was greeted with horror. Didn't bother me as my Midwestern upbringing has given me plenty of experience with sky humidity. I even missed it... a bit.. while I was in CA, but just a bit.
Great project, easy to grow.
Placemats for yourself - what a novel idea!! Perhaps I should give that a try one of these days? Seriously, those will give you a lot of pleasure I'm sure and good luck surviving those muggy days.
Why is it we don't sew for ourselves? Hmmm...love High Cotton. That's going to be an awesome quilt. It sound very much like you're having our Summer. We're in the 70s and low 80s and no humidity.
I love the Kim Diehl quilt ...it’s going to look fabulous finished. Nice new block additions too. There is something very appealing about this pattern and those fabrics.
Ive never made myself placemats either. It could be time to remedy that (oh who am I kidding – I dont have time for that right now !)
I really like High Cotton and your fun place mats. It's been hot and humid here too. We are used to the hot, but it's usually a dry heat, like a blast furnace. The wet blanket feeling when you walk outside is just yucky.
