Slow Sunday Stitching --Decisions

Slow Sunday Stitching on Kathy's Quilts blog comes round again--lots of lovely things to see.

I've been ignoring the cross-stitched sunflower I was working on since I made a counting error, and turned to a Blackbird Designs booklet I've wanted to stitch since I bought it at a thrift store several years ago. I've shown it several times on the blog before.

While I like the Alabaster linen color in the cover photo, I have not been able to buy any matching linen locally and have been thinking about tea dyeing this white Cashel linen I was able to find at Hobby Lobby.   Having never tea-dyed anything, I'm a bit hesitant as I don't want it to be too dark, or blotchy, or too brown rather than creamy like the cover photo. Sigh. The embroidery thread has been purchased and waiting for some time to be stitched up, and seeing it in the photo, I think it might be just fine on the white, after all!

I did find this Maman Chat  kit at my local fabric store...

The scarf and glasses--too funny!  I may have to go back and get it after all 😊

I vote for tea dye... it will be fun! You can just keep putting it back in the tea until it looks right to you.
A counting error can result in a timeout in the UFO closet!
In the meantime, these are both fun designs to stitch!

I've got a Prairie Schooler 4th of July started but it has stalled big time! Have a few Blackbird patterns but have never stitched one. Someday maybe. Yeah, I think the tea dying would work..you could do it for a short time and see how that is after drying and then do more if you want a little darker.

It seems everyone votes for tea dying. Though I rather love those colours on the white. =) Those threads are such pretty colours. Such a pretty design you have chosen to stitch. That cat!! How cute are those glasses!

I love that kitty project! It's so very cute! I'm wondering, how does someone fix a mistake in cross stitch? I'm thinking if we rip it out, it might warp the fabric? Your thread choices for the Blackbird design are so pretty! Thank you so much for sharing?

What a nice design. I think tea dyeing will look nice.
I LOVE the cat design and I hope you went back and got it.
As far as your miscounted work, make an adjustment and move forward. We don't hang the pattern next to the finished work ;)

Yes, like quilters everywhere, I've also picked stitching back up as well. I think tea dyeing might just give you the warmth that you want for that fabric, the design is a great one; go for it!

I have done a little tea-dying and I don't think there is much reason to fear getting it too dark. You have to have the tea very strong and leave it in extremely long to get anything resembling "dark", in my experience.
Those colors are so pretty and to me they have an aged look that would be set off beautifully on the tea-dyed fabric. That said, if you want it on the white, do it on the white!
That cat is a hoot!!
