Leader Enders

Ridiculously cute Baby Boxes have been forming under my needle as a  leader-ender project.  I have been cutting my scraps into strips for a while now a la Bonnie Hunter's Scrap Users system, and all of these fabrics came from my precut bins.

There are so many different quilts represented in these scraps!  That bottom left green was from the very first bed quilt I ever made, a Double Pinwheel for my sister's 40th birthday.  DD Erica and I drove to Arizona to deliver it to Kathy, who was visiting our brother Ted and his family for the Thanksgiving holiday with her kids that year.  We saw wild javelina for the first time, a mama with three or four babies following her, when we went out looking for Kathy's son Jake the first evening, who was off exploring the neighborhood near sunset.  It took Erica and me 12 hours to drive back home that Sunday due to the horrendous holiday traffic (4 hours longer than expected), a truly unforgettable journey.

It is fun to troll though quilt memories while sewing these.

I cut lots of extra pieces and have four more blue boxes to stitch when I get my machine back.  The spa day was held over as I did not get a call yesterday.  No cutting of the next leader ender happened either.  It has been hot and sticky here, unusual weather for SoCalif, which is exhausting.  These kinds of days make me wish we had air conditioning, at least so we can sleep!   Thank goodness for a short week at work, we don't have air conditioning there either.

I love leaders & enders. I have all of Bonnie Hunter's books and took them with me for a long 4th of July weekend with my sister and girl cousins - I may have made a few more converts to the Bonnie Way of Doing Things! Love your quilt - I'm stealing that idea :D

The leaders and enders project is looking good. It's fun to see old projects show up in a new one.

It's good to hear of your memories tied to different pieces in your scrappy quilt. That's just one more reason to enjoy the art of quilting!

Oh, Annie, I'm sorry for your lack of a/c!! We lived for twenty years that way! I'm one of those that get sick in heat, and one night, we went to bed with it being 98 degrees in the house...miserable. When we bought this house, a/c was MANDATORY by Momma! (that would be me) Stay cool as possible, my friend. hugs, pokey

There are so many memories tied up in fabric....when / where you bought it....who was there....why you bought it...if indeed there was a reason...the same with projects in progress. Keep cool....!

Oh Annie, that is so cute. I have been wanting to buy the Leaders and Enders book every since I found out about it earlier this year. Every project I see people making from it are so exciting. Now, as my scrap pile is growing larger and larger by the day - I know I will need that book soon, real soon. : )

What a great leader/ender project! I need to cut/prep another project...I miss having one to work on. My 2 L/E projects are at the "piecing the top" stage and require design decisions :(
