My design surface has not changed from last week--still the wedding quilt. I got the borders cut and then found, after winding a bobbin that used up the end of a spool, that I was completely out of ecru thread. So, instead of sewing, I worked on my MATH for the backing fabric I needed to purchase and also doodled some quilting plans.
My thought is still to cut out some ginkgo leaves in different leaf shapes and iron them onto the top in the larger squares, then free motion around them. If that works out, I may do the same in the smaller squares. However, the priority is to work on my outfit for the wedding, which is now less than three weeks away!
Lots and lots of pieces to cut...I started with the interfacing for the jacket. It wasn't until I had those pieces laid out that I realized I didn't have enough for the dress too, so it's back to JoAnn's for me! Yesterday I was #89 at the cutting table when they were calling #77. Everyone was buying fabric for Halloween costumes, it seemed. On the agenda tonight, more cutting! Love the fan shape of the gingko leaf. First time I ever saw one was while living in Japan. Can't wait to see the quilt you make.
I love the leaves from the gingko tree, too. My grandparents had them in their yard, so they bring back happy memories for me. Good luck on your wedding outfit!! I haven't sewn a jacket in a long time -- I hope it all sews smoothly for you! :)
My local sewing store is like that most of the time. I usually take a book and a packed lunch to wait at the cutting counter.
Cant wait to see your outfit. I just know it's going to be beautiful and I already have a picture in my head.
Oh, my. We are finally getting a JoAnns here, I didnt' realize they took numbers!

Love the idea of ginko leaves for the quilting on the wedding quilt.
If our JoAnn's ever gets so busy that they hand out numbers for the cutting table, I'll be really surprised. Ours usually isn't that busy; it's usually understaffed. That's creates total frustration for everybody.
I like gingko leaves for a quilting motif -- they represent long life, memory, hope, and peace. Good choice.
I'd love to pop over and help you work on your wedding outfit. I'm an experienced seamstress, and your approaching deadline is making me nervous. Or maybe I could help by doing a bit of transcription for you so you'd have more time for the quilting and the dress/jacket. Just a few hundred miles closer, and I'd be on my way. Seriously!
