I came to two conclusions as I quilted: I need to learn how to use a hoop and that people who quilt on car trips must be experts.
The bating fibers were choking me so I attached the binding after getting home yesterday. Four whole blocks and the two half blocks are finished. I have until midnight on the 31st to finish the rest...
All the blocks for Bricks and Stepping Stones got finished on Friday night so it will be time to play layout and switcheroo after the handquilting job is done.
Today is my mother in law's 93rd birthday so we are taking her to a nice dinner out. Here she is in front of the quilt I made for her 90th birthday. Frances is still living independently (in a senior apartment complex) and very active. See more design walls on Judy's Patchwork Times.

I'm not a very good hand quilter and really want to be. Maybe I should get my project out and work on that. ;0) I think your's looks great.
Love your bricks and stepping stones.
Happy birthday to MIL.
No way does your mother in law look 93.... wow!
As for hand quilting... if I take my time and am really careful, I might finish quilt in 10 years... LOL
Take care.
You're almost 1/3 done already...
go Annie go!
You can do it!
Oh, I so know what you mean about hand quilting! I've made myself continue to quilt small projects but I'm not sure I'm improving much. I really like your red, white & blue quilt with the zig zag setting.
Annie, I think your quilt is lovely! And the hand quilting looks terrific! I'm not going to finish this month's UFO...but I'm not sweating it. I can't work with a hoop when I'm hand quilting. It irritates the fire out of me! :)
Terrific for your MIL! I don't think I could do any hand work while riding in a car. Best of luck with your finish. Love the patriotic-ness.
Happy Birthday to your MIL!
I've never hand quilted anything .It's on my list for this year . Im sure it'll be pot holder sized.
You've started at least. I have heard that it does get easier with practice.
Have a great dinner. Happy Birthday to your MIL.
I love your little quilt! It looks great and I'm sure the hand quilting is great. I think it is harder when you have a deadline to complete the stitching by.
Looks like you've been quite productive. I love the setting on the little quilt - very cool!
I have no idea how you do all this working two jobs, Annie, but what you do is absolutely fantastic! Happy birthday to your mother in law!
Cheers!
I really have been thinking of doing a hand quilting project...It has been too long!
I can't imagine quilting in the car! And I'm pretty good at it. I do use a hoop and two thimbles though.
Happy Birthday to your mother-in-law!
You can do it! Looks great from here. As for stitching in the car - I can manage a binding, but that's it. How can I possibly keep my eyes on Hubby's driving and stitch at the same time? *s*
Oh Annie, Strawberry Fields is coming along swimmingly. I can tell you (again) how much I love this one and your hand quilting is going to be lovely.
