Then two opposite-colored pieced 6" squares were placed right sides together and stitched as if they were big HSTs, on either side of a drawn line corner to corner between the smaller squares to create a striped block.
I pressed all the seams open for maximum flatness, then squared them down to 5.5". The pieced block is flipped every other row so either the pink or brown triangle is at the top to match the solid alternate 5.5" block. Clever, no?
All the rows got pieced (Oops, one row is turned wrong!). I pressed to the solid blocks so all the seams would nest. Once the top is complete I gotta get going on the quilting portion. I found this fabric for the back at Joann's:
I love it! This baby quilt is destined for a friend who already has two older monkeys :) See more design walls on Judy's Patchwork Times.

Seems like it would be easy to turn a row the wrong way. Have to be vigilant about that! : )
What a fun choice for the backing, Annie!
I've never watched one of these come together. …and a great backing.
The backing is perfect for this project and soon she'll three little monkeys jumping on the bed! How cute.
Those colors remind me of Neapolitan ice cream. Makes me hungry. :)
Great design in your quilt. I have not seen one like that before. Perfect monkey fabric!!
Those blocks are looking beautiful. What a clever way to put the blocks together!
You got an offer for cars from the same name that I've seen removed from 2 other blogs today. Busy guy :(
Love these houndstooth blocks, Annie, and the backing fabric is going to bring lots of smiles to everyone! Great quilt.
What a perfect backing you found...the colours match so perfectly!
Love the design. Cute backing fabric too.
What a cleaver block/setting. I can see this as a boy's quilt in so many colors.
