Design Wall Monday--Finishes for Family

It's Design Wall Monday--see more design walls on Judy's Small Quilts and Doll Quilts blog.

Happy events like finishing quilts and getting to see family were big mood boosters this week--I even got a haircut on a vacation day and went on a Friday night date with hubby.

Our son and daughter-in-law came to pick up the Dreamweaver quilt and I got to surprise them with the quilt for their soon-to-be-born son. Sorry it is a little dark, the contrast was hard to adjust due to the sunny background.

Nick calls this "Ashley's Quilt" since she is the one who gets cold...in fact, she covered up with it while we socially distance visited in our backyard :).  Baby was not able to be turned by the doctor in an external version procedure earlier this week, so she is now scheduled for a C-section, which of course she doesn't prefer.  Fingers crossed that he will turn himself around and have a regular birth!  We are eager to meet our #3 grandson though are not sure when that will be possible, due to COVID-19.  No visitors allowed at the hospital but we will get photos, at least.

The baby quilt went over well, both liked the colors and lightness of the design.

I named the quilt Shades of Water and Sky and bound it in Kona Oasis blue.  So happy these swapped Churn Dash blocks found a good home in this baby quilt.

The tree print for the back was a happy find in stash, though a recent purchase.  Quilting was all by walking foot, stitching in the ditch across and down the rows, and then making an X in the center of the churn dashes. I even got it labeled, yay me!

Sewing Room work this week will be concentrated on making cushion slipcovers for a glider/rocker Ashley was given by a friend.  The fabric she chose is pretty soft and frays easily, so I'll be lining/ interfacing and/or reinforcing some of the pieces, then adding velcro to close the covers.  That will occupy a number of hours for sure.  I'd also like to prep another handwork project to pick up between telemedicine visits.

Your daughter looks healthy and beautiful! I'm sure she will cherish this Dreamweaver as it is really lovely. Such great design work in the background and with all those colors in the applique. A wonderful finish for you!
It must be pretty exciting waiting for this new grand baby. I'm praying he'll turn himself around too. He's going to look cute on this sweet baby quilt :-) Nice work!

The Dreamweaver quilt is a wonderful finish! The soft background is perfect, and I really like the overall look.
What a fun surprise to have the baby quilt ready as well.
Bless your heart for making the cushion covers. I know someone who does that, so I am off the hook for such things. LOL

Dreamweaver, for all it's drama, turned out beautiful! The baby quilt also turned out very cute. I'm sure baby and mama are going to enjoy both.

Dreamweaver is GORGEOUS; well done! I love it. The baby quilt is just perfect and precious. Good for you, making the covers for the cushions~ those aren't my favorite type of jobs to do but I know you will make the best of this and they'll turn out great. These are indeed strange times we're living through~ the baby will be just fine, it's the cuddles and hugs that we, as grandparents, can't endure missing out on. Sending virtual hugs to you~

Oh, the Dreamweaver is just beautiful! All those leaves and all that quilting! A labor of love!

Hmm.. A C-section. My daughter is sure hoping she doesn't have to have that but it's not us who decides these things... And not getting to meet the baby right away! Well you'll probably get in a hug before I ever do. This Covid sure affects us in ways I wouldn't have imagined.

Dreamweaver turned out beautifully! You've been busy, with two baby quilts all finished off. Glad you've been able to find a way to see the family and social distance. We may only see the SIT that way for a while, since she's back at college where the new case numbers are starting to go up pretty quickly. Good luck with the cushion sewing. Fingers crossed that the new little one turns himself soon.
